What is in my CD player

1) Perennial by Twila Paris (1998). My brother brought this CD to me in Paris when I was pregnant with our daughter. This soft praise and worship project includes one of my favorite hymns “Be Thou My Vision,” as well as the newer “Father, We Are Here,” complete with a boys’ choir. Sometimes I think I could float away listening to it. Even my children, ages 8 and 4, think it is “beautiful music.”

2) Michael W. Smith’s Worship II - This project has some of the most popular, recent worship songs with a bit of creativity. (Rock guitars AND violins) My favorites are “Ancient Words” and “Lord, Have Mercy.” To make it better, it was recorded in Louisville, Kentucky, where I was raised.

3) Conversational Spanish - We purchased this treasure in a kid’s meal at Chick-Fil-A. We first got the French CD; it was so good that we went back and got the others. The German was for my husband; my daughter wanted the Japanese CD; and I was the obvious candidate for the Spanish one. Now I can say “mucho gusto” when I meet a Spanish speaking person!

One of my favorite hymns

One of my favorite hymns is Take Time to Be Holy by Longstaff & Stebbins.

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
